One Year. Two Goals.

Cal State East Bay offers the combined Primary of Science in Reading and Literacy (MSRL) and Reading and Literacy Added Authorization (RLAA). The combined MSRL and RLAA focus on literacy development; learning, teaching, and leadership; and edifice a culture of literacy in homes, schools, and the community.

The combined graduate program is designed for working professionals and can be completed in one yr.* Those who wish to earn the RLAA without a primary's caste may do so.Nosotros offer Spring and Summertime admissions.

*The programme totals 30 units. One yr completion is for students who transfer in nine eligible units from an accredited post-baccalaureate credential program. Students who are unable to transfer in units may be required to take an boosted three courses, or more than, if they do non accept the required number of transfer units. Dr. Denise Fleming

Professor & Program Coordinator

As the first person in my family unit to consummate high school-allow alone go to college-I know the power of literacy and how a single teacher can change the entire trajectory of a student's life.

Dr. Denise, as her students phone call her, brings nearly four decades of Grand-12 and university teaching experience to her work with graduate students. Her teaching and scholarship are grounded in social justice, diversity, and practical applications of theoretical and evidence-based knowledge.

Dr. Fleming completed her doctoral degree at UC Berkeley. Her accomplishments include serving President of the California Reading Association, Chair of the CSU arrangement-wide Reading Task Force, Co-director of an $800,000 literacy-based school-university partnership grant, and three terms as Chair of the CSU system-wide standing committee on Academic Grooming and Education Programs (APEP).

Dr. Fleming holds several credentials, including Multiple Subject, two Single Subjects, a specialist credential in Reading and Linguistic communication Arts, a supplemental say-so in Mathematics; and the Cross-cultural, Language and Bookish Development (CLAD) Certificate). She is multilingual and has taught in bilingual and ESL settings.

Dr. Fleming'southward areas of scholarly interest include literacy across the life spectrum, teacher development in various settings, cess, higher instruction governance, second language pedagogy, and technology applications in educational settings. Dr. Fleming is also an educational consultant in private do.

Dr. Cinzia Forasiepi

Dr. Cinzia Forasiepi brings to the program more xx years of university educational activity in both the U.s. and in Canada. She grew upwards in Italy where she pursued graduate studies in Political Scientific discipline and Translation.

Subsequently moving to Canada, she worked equally a translator for the Canadian government and the Italian Consulate, but she also taught Italian as a foreign language at the University of Victoria.

Dr. Forasiepi completed her Ed.D. at the University of San Francisco. Stemming from her own feel as an immigrant and 2d language learner, her theoretical groundwork includes first and second language acquisition and pedagogy, literacy pedagogy, multicultural education, social justice in education, and human rights education.

Dr. Forasiepi has taught at Sonoma State University for sixteen years in the multiple subject program and MA Reading and TESOL programs. At the University of San Francisco and at Notre Dame De Namur Academy, she taught in their online TESOL MA programs. She enjoys planning for online teaching and loves connecting with her students using a multifariousness of educational technology tools.
